Design Contest Guidelines

In this contest, the public is invited to submit textile designs that represent Silicon Valley. The five winning designs will be selected by online community voting. Voting will be conducted on the fusionwear sv website. The winner will be announced on the website on June 8, 2010. The winning designs will be exhibited at the San Jose Museum of Quilts & Textiles and the winners will receive three yards of fabric produced from his/her design and a year-long Museum membership.


Design Submission

1. Create a digital textile design using your favorite computer software. Adobe Photoshop is recommended. Save your design as a jpeg (.jpg) at the resolution: 8 inches by 8 inches (1200 pixels square), at 150 dpi. LAB or RGB color.

2. Upload your textile design to your Flickr account. If you do not have a Flickr account, simply create one at http://www.flickr.com. It is free.

3. Tag the image: fusionwearsv_design

4. Add a description of how your design represents Silicon Valley to you. Answer the following: How do you feel about Silicon Valley as a place to live, work and create? Include your full name please.

6. Designs must be offered under a Creative Commons Attribution License. Check out this page (http://www.flickr.com/creativecommons/) for more information on Creative Commons licenses.

7. Join the fusionwearsv group Flickr site.

8. Add your design to the group pool. You may submit up to five (5) designs.

8. Submit your designs between May 1 – June 3rd for online submissions and June 4th for in person submissions at the museum during the SubZero Festival.


Voting

Online voting to select the winning design will be conducted from June 5 - 11, 2010. At the end of the voting period, the designs with the most votes will be declared the winners. One vote per person is counted. Voting will be conducted through the fusionwear sv website.

Note: All submitted designs must be your own and you may not use designs based upon other peoples' work.

Question: Am I giving up copyright of my design by entering it? You are not giving up ownership of your design, but by entering your design in the contest, you give the Museum the rights to exhibit textiles based on your design in the Museum during the 2010 01 SJ Biennial and to use images of your design and/or fabric created from the design in print and online promotion for the exhibit.
